Debussy’s Dream

Debussy’s Dream takes us inside the imagined thoughts and nightmares of composer Claude Debussy. Three female dancers move through a surreal world, performing Remy Tilburg’s distinctive fragmented movement language — physical, rhythmical and continuously shifting between control and unpredictability.

Faces covered in silver beads and bold, colourful lighting transform the stage into a dreamlike universe: playful, mysterious and at times slightly absurd.

The dancers emerge as characters in their own right, articulating their way through space in search of a world where freedom prevails and individuality can exist without restraint. Movement is treated almost like a chemical process: broken apart, manipulated and reconstructed. Just as flavour, colour and texture come together to create something new, familiar movements are transformed into unexpected physical forms.

Within this constantly shifting dreamscape, bodies travel, collide and reshape themselves — revealing new possibilities for movement, identity and imagination.

Debussy’s Dream was originally created by Remy Tilburg for DANSLOKAAL 2022, the annual talent development programme of Conny Janssen Danst, where the work had its premiere. The piece marked an important step in the development of the choreographic language that continues to shape his work within IID Company today.
